With NeoCon quickly approaching, we’re talking to Pete for this month’s Innovative Team Spotlight. As an industrial designer on Innovative’s engineering and design team, Pete has a hand in creating some of Innovative’s most unique and recognizable products like the Bild multi-monitor mount and Winston Workstation. Read on to find out about Pete and his work at Innovative.
1. How long have you been with Innovative?
3 years, 8 months.
2. What do you like most about your job?
I get to think up new products, and then work with some talented engineers to make them real.
3. What would you like others to know about your job?
Industrial design is not just about “making things look cool,” though that is part of it. Good industrial design is about developing products that are more appropriate, that perform better, are easier to use, to assemble, to manufacture, sell, and yes, recycle.
4. What has been your proudest moment at Innovative?
NeoCon 2014: We publicly introduced three new products (Tablik, Bild, and Winston). That was a pretty good achievement on its own, but it got better. People kept saying how much they preferred Winston over its competitors, including [a cometitor’s] product. AND Tablik beat out a new competing product for an award in the “Technology Support” category. Their designers kept coming around our booth, and eventually their senior design manager came around to have a look for himself. I got a kick out of that.
